How to Avoid the Lines at Disney World

I am a really impatient person. I think there’s always something better I could be doing with my time, which means I really hate to wait in line. Especially at Disney World. I’m always looking for ways to minimize my time standing in line when touring Disney’s four theme parks. I’ve read all the books, know all the little tips and tricks to go the opposite direction of the masses and have spent time in the parks testing all these theories out. And then, Disney introduced its FastPass+ service. For someone like me, it was like opening my dream present on Christmas morning.

For those of you whose eyes just glossed over as though I were speaking a foreign language – Disney’s complimentary (read: Free!) FastPass+ service lets you reserve access to select rides, attractions and entertainment. It’s the equivalent of making a reservation for a ride!

When you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort, you get early access to the FastPass+ reservation system, which means we get to book your three FastPasses 60 days before your trip! People not staying on Disney property get to book theirs 30 days in advance. Because the availability of FastPasses is limited, it’s worthwhile to book them as far in advance as possible.

You get to book three FastPasses per day in one park. If you have the Park Hopper ticket option, you can make additional FastPass+ selections at a kiosk in the park once you have used your initial allotment of three FastPasses.Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 4.48.15 PM

How do they work? You choose your FastPasses using your My Disney Experience account. You are given a time to show up at the FastPass entrance of the ride or attraction and get in the shorter line. For most things, you have a one-hour window to use your pass. For example, if my FastPass for Toy Story Mania is from 9-10 a.m., I can get in the quicker FastPass line anytime within that hour.

Some people fear losing spontaneity in the parks but I disagree! If you want to change your selection while on the go, just log in to your app and make the change. This can be tricky for the more popular rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, because there isn’t likely to be availability for those last minute.

Still think the FastPass+ system sounds confusing? Then you’re in luck! Book your trip with me and I’ll help you with this process! I give tips on which FastPasses will save you the most time in line and help you make your selections. Because you’d hate to waste this precious gift from Disney on a ride that isn’t likely to have a long line anyway, right?

Want help with every aspect of planning your trip? Let me help you for free! As long as you stay at a Disney resort, Disney pays me to assist you with all your planning needs without passing that cost on to you. It costs the same to let me do all the work as it would if you booked the same trip with Disney directly. Can’t get much better than that!
